I began practicing yoga in 1994 and was immediately hooked. Not long after, I took a college course in Buddhism, and I began to study Eastern spirituality and meditation on my own. After practicing yoga at home for years using Cyndi Lee's "OM Yoga-in-a-Box" as well as her books, I finally ventured into a studio and was once again hooked! The experience of practicing in a yoga studio was wonderful, and I knew that I was meant to teach yoga. I had found my calling.
When I learned I could study to become a yoga teacher with Marni Task, one of my favorite yoga teachers in the Cleveland area, I decided to take the plunge. I graduated from Marni's 200-hour teacher training program in June 2009, and I've been teaching ever since. In fact, I've taught over 1,200 hours since graduating. And I love it! I am a certified yoga teacher and am registered as an E-RYT (experienced registered yoga teacher) with the Yoga Alliance as well.
My teaching is inspired and influenced by the Jivamukti Yoga of Sharon Gannon and David Life, the Anusara Yoga of John Friend, and the OM Yoga of Cyndi Lee. As a result, in my classes, students will hear inspirational and uplifting music, do some devotional chanting, learn how the teachings found in ancient and sacred texts of yoga can be applied to modern life, be asked to bring awareness and focus to their breath, be encouraged to find optimal alignment in their postures, and be invited to bring mindfulness to all areas of their practice.
For me, the practice of yoga is a lifelong endeavor, and I enjoy continuing to learn something each day from my teachers as well as from the students who take my classes.
